    Research Background
    MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondria-derived peptide (CAS 1627580-64-6, ~2174.6 g/mol) encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA region, first described by Lee and colleagues in 2015. It is studied mainly through the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) energy-sensing axis.
    In cell and rodent models, MOTS-c exposure is linked to AMPK activation in muscle, liver, and adipose tissue, with readouts including glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, and mitochondrial biogenesis, plus nuclear translocation under metabolic stress.
